ABOUTThe Latina Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC) is designed to create a fun and safe environment where middle school and high school girls can engage in discussions about issues affecting Latina women and learn how to overcome these barriers.
We feel a personal obligation to help improve the graduation statistics of Latinas by empowering girls to succeed from a young age. The objective is to encourage young girls to establish academic goals early on, allow our sisters to be a testament to academic success in higher education, and help young students navigate the intricacies of entering college. |
What makes up the Latina Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC)?

Irene Guerra graduated from Stanford University in 2006 with a B.A. in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and a Spanish Minor. She is from East Palo Alto and the only female of four siblings. When she started Stanford she became involved with Project Motivation, El Centro Chicano, Nuestra Graduación, Admit Weekend Programming, and the AXE committee. She has worked in evaluating programs, served as a board member of a local non-profit and begun making waves in marginalized communities. She owes a huge part of her success to her familia and sisters who motivated her to continue her education.
Irene currently works at the Ravenswood Family Health Center in her hometown of East Palo Alto as a licensed clinical psychologist. She provides brief therapeutic services to low income populations through community centered mental health services and provides a safe space for people to resolve their mental health problems.
